Did it!

Now there's just the little matter of editing and revising.

Good luck to all my writing buddies still hammering away at the keyboard ... keep going... you can do it!

Sunday 23 November 2008

The finishing line's in sight!

I'm heading into the final week of NaNoWriMo with a nice healthy word count behind me, which means I just have to manage a few hundred words a day to reach the 30 November deadline. The story's had its ups and downs and there'll be a lot of revision to do, but overall it's moved along well enough. The process has been hard, but enjoyable, plus it's amazing how liberating it can be to just write and not worry too hard about the internal editor sitting on your shoulder as you work. During the process I've often slipped into what Chris Baty in No Plot? No Problem! calls 'the zone' "that place where you become a passive conduit to a story" which "exercises your brain in weird, pleasant ways and just makes life a little bit more enchanted." Amen to that.

This has been my first NaNo experience, but I'm thinking it won't be the last.

New Release

Finn needs a wife - temporarily
Thia needs a miracle - permanently

Today sees the release of my latest contemporary romance A Temporary Arrangement from The Wild Rose Press.

With his sister’s recent death heavy on his conscience, Finn Montgomery wants custody of his seven year old nephew. That means finding a suitable woman and making her an offer she can’t refuse.

Thia Conway needs a miracle. Too bad that miracle comes in the shape of a ruthless and arrogant businessman who views a marriage proposal as just another clause in a contract – a contract Thia has no option but to sign.

New Review

Satin Lies received a 4 Blue Ribbon review from Romance Junkies. Here's a peep at what the reviewer said:

"Emotions become real and tangible in the heart wrenching SATIN LIES. The obvious love between Enrico and Faye is so strong, so sentient that it is hard to see them tear themselves apart because of secrets and lies ... passionate, powerful, and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon."

Reviving the Soul

We've just returned from a trip to the beautiful South of France, my most favourite place in the world.

The Cote d'Azur is guaranteed to put a spring in my step - fabulous blue seas, cloudless skies, wonderful scents and seductive scenery (not least of which includes oggling those classy Mediterranean men). Yum!

Oh yes, indeed. I've returned with quite the spring in my step ....

His Convenient Affair out in print!

The only way Chloe can afford to expand her business is to sell her cherished cottage to a development company. Trouble is, the company’s CEO has an uncanny knack for getting under her skin … plus he seems to think she’s included in the deal.

His Convenient Affair, first released by Samhain Publishing in digital format last August, is now available in print. I really love Nathan and Chloe’s story, so it’s a great feeling to hold the actual book in my hot little hands.

Samhain Cowboy Roundup

Ever fancied writing about a sexy cowboy hero? Then why not take a look Samhain editor Heidi Moore's latest call for submissions:

"I'm thrilled to announce my call for submissions for the Samhain Cowboy Roundup.

Put on Tim McGraw's "Real Good Man", close your eyes and picture a guy who wears jeans to work and who's real good with his hands, and let your muse have her way. I'm looking for 3 novellas to fit into Samhain's Cowboy Roundup Anthology. This anthology will consist of three novellas to be released individually as eBooks in June 2009 and combined into one print title in 2010.

I'm open to any romance genre but the stories must end with a HEA. Submissions are open to all authors previously published with Samhain as well as authors aspiring to publish with Samhain. Submissions must be new material—previously published material will not be considered. Additionally, we will not consider manuscripts previously submitted whether individually or for past anthologies. Please be aware that manuscripts submitted to this anthology cannot be resubmitted at a later date unless by invitation from an editor.

To submit, please include the full manuscript of 24,000–30,000 words with a 2–5 page synopsis. Also include a letter of introduction/query letter if you are an author not previously contracted with Samhain. Submissions are open until December 1, 2008, and the final decision will be made by December 24, 2008. Submissions should be sent to editor@samhainpublishing.com . Please put Cowboy Roundup Anthology Submission in the subject line. If you receive an auto response, your submission has been received. Anthologies are special projects exempt to the general closing of submissions.

I'm happy to answer questions about this anthology either on the Samhain Author loop, Samhain Café, or by private email at heidi at samhainpublishing dot com

Night Brigade - the Satellite

One of my Wings buddies has her first book released today and it's a stunner! Night Brigade - The Satellite, by Elliot Love, is a fast-paced paranormal I had the pleasure of reviewing, which meant I got to read it before its official release. Great characters and a plot that promises to go in one direction then twists and shoots off in another ... It's an exciting, sensual and provocative read. Treat yourself to an excerpt by clicking HERE.

Enjoy.

A special release at The Wild Rose Press

Take a read of the following message from Rhonda Penders which gives the background for this fabulous book now available from The Wild Rose Press. Not only is it a great story, but all proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Judith Rochelle, is one of our multipublished authors at The Wild Rose Press as well as a personal friend. In late summer, 2007 I approached her with an idea of a project that would enable RJ and me to give something back for all the wonderful things that had happened to us since we opened in May 2006. I wanted to find an organization that I felt everyone, everywhere would care about and really embrace. While many qualified, the one that kept coming back to my mind was St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

A few days later, Judith created a synopsis and a proposal for a book incorporating romance, suspense and St. Jude's. It took my breath away at what she'd come up with. Judith wrote the book, RJ and I edited it, and Kim Mendoza did the beautiful cover. None of us, including the publishing company, will receive any compensation; every penny will go to St. Jude's. Children's Hospital.

The result of this, is the amazing Crimson Rose book called "On the Run" by Judith Rochelle. The book will be offered in both print and electronic format. The amount raised will be announced on our web site twice a year. The first report to be posted at the end of June 2008.

If you've purchased this book, thank you for your contribution to St. Jude's, if you haven't purchased it yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. The download is $5.00 and will go into a special fund to be donated to St. Jude's twice a year.

If you would like more information on this project, you may contact Rhonda Penders at rpenders@thewildrosepress.com. To learn more about the author, please visit www.judithrochelle.com

To see the amazing work St. Jude's does, please visit their web site at www.stjude.org.

Thank you for your support of this important project.

New Year, New Release

Today sees the release of The Diamond Virgin from Wings ePress. This was my very first contracted book, so it's very special to me.

The Diamond Virgin tells the story of Paige Frasier, an English photojournalist. Rebuilding her career following her father’s death, Paige is blackmailed into covering the latest tabloid scandal involving a press-hating billionaire. She isn’t prepared for the secrets of the past that threaten her fragile peace, or for the devastating attraction to the one man who holds the key to her future.

Please click HERE if you'd like to read an excerpt.

Happy New Year to all.
